New Calling in Life

I may have found a new calling today while helping my sister-in-law clean get her house ready for the family-filled weekend. Since she and my brother were married in July, they haven't had much time to organize and make the best use of space in their home.

What started as an attempt to move some things around from one storage area to another became an all-out organization effort! She and I weeded through what was necessary, what could be moved elsewhere (i.e. the attic), what could be donated to Good Will, and what could be tossed. As boring as it may seem to most people, I really enjoyed myself.

When asked for my strengths in interviews, I usually mention that I value organization. I also try to offer my slightly obsessive, alphabetically organized DVD collection and bookshelves of binders and textbooks as examples of this in my day-to-day life. Today helped me to see that I can really apply it to many more areas. Now, I'm not sure how neat and orderly my room looks right now, but it's a work in progress, for sure!

All day, I made comments about feeling like I was on Hoarders, my new, most-terrifying television show. There was even some gentle persuasion when it came to deciding about the logic of keeping 4 crock pots and 3 rice cookers. At one point, she even said that she had no idea how they'd been living with the clutter for so long! So, if this whole student affairs thing doesn't work out as I hope it does, I've got a backup plan!
